AT&T is still the “iPhone network,” according to numbers from its quarterly earnings report. AT&T sold 5.5 million smartphones in the quarter, but 4.3 million of the smartphones activated were iPhones. That means the iPhone represented a whopping 78 percent of total smartphone sales (although some “iPhone activations” could have been hand me downs). Additionally, AT&T’s postpaid customers are almost 60 percent smartphone customers, which means AT&T’s iPhone customers represent a huge percentage of its base—nearly 5o percent and growing....

The writers behind Avengers: Endgame want to write a Secret Wars movie for the Russo Brothers to direct. Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011, when they wrote the screenplay for Captain America: The First Avenger. The writing duo has worked together on multiple Marvel projects since then, including Agent Carter and Thor: The Dark World. They have also written the screenplays for both Captain America sequels and Avengers: Infinity War, all three of which the Russo Brothers have directed....
What’s in the Aviary suite? The Aviary suite is made up of 8 different web applications. Each web application has both a practical name and a funky bird name to go with it. Honestly, it totally confuses me, but I think it’s groovy they got this whole bird theme going on; it’s unique for sure. Another great thing about Aviary is there’s nothing to install similar to Google Apps. Everything is done in the “the cloud” so I don’t need to worry about security patches or other exploits familiar with Adobe software....
After almost 17 years, the Bad Boys – Miami detective Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) finally return to the big screen in Bad Boys For Life. Bare Bones Software has released a big update to BBEdit, the HTML and text editor for the Mac. Starting with today’s version 12.6 release, BBEdit is now a sandboxed app. The security update makes BBEdit one step closer to returning to the Mac App Store. From the BBEdit 12.6 release notes: Sandboxing is also required for Mac apps distributed through Apple’s Mac App Store. Bare Bones famously pulled BBEdit from the Mac App Store almost five years ago, but Apple announced at WWDC 2018 that BBEdit and other apps including Transmit and Microsoft Office would return or debut on the new Mac App Store....

IMAX and Apple today announced that the planned April 3 theatrical release for the highly-anticipated ‘Beastie Boys Story’ documentary has been postponed, as reported by Deadline. The news should be unsurprising given the evolving coronavirus situation. Most IMAX theaters have already closed as a result of latest public health guidance. Mac OS 10.11 is El Capitan Continuing with Apple’s recent naming tradition, Mac OS X has location-based names rather than cats. El Capitan is a rock formation in Yosemite National park. Rather than the major changes in previous operating system announcements, MacOS 10.11 features more evolutionary changes. The update is free and should be available in the Fall. Any system that runs Yosemite can run El Capitan, according to Apple....
Some interesting info coming out of the requisite AppleTV teardown from iFixit. First off, the AppleTV has an 8GB Samsung Flash chip but room for another 8GB (v2 1080P version?). While most of that space is probably reserved for caching movies, a few apps could use this space to build a home. The Panasonic board that contains the Broadcom Wifi chip also has an FM radio. Apple could enable this at some point (or some hackers could like the Droid 2) or maybe it just came along for the ride?...
Asymco’s Horace Dediu has estimated that Apple Watch sales since launch total 33M, generating $12B in revenue. Of those numbers, he reckons 15M were sold in the past 12 months, with sales in this period totalling $4.9B. The Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) is used to resolve IP addresses into MAC addresses (hardware addresses). Computers in a network send messages to each other through MAC addresses. At an initial stage of communication, the computers are only aware of their allocated IP addresses on the network. The ARP plays the role of making an ARP request from the requesting device on the network by querying the IP addresses on a receiving device for a MAC address....
