Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered is getting a lot of improvements to its gameplay. Ubisoft first announced that the remastered Assassin’s Creed 3 would release to players who purchased the season pass of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey in 2018.
Assassin’s Creed 3, which released in 2012, told the story of a Native American man named Connor in a setting that highlighted the beginnings of the American Revolutionary War in the 18th century. The game added new elements to gameplay including parkour techniques designed for running, jumping and climbing around in the forest. It also introduced the concept of hunting and skinning animals, as well as new stealth features that allowed Connor to hide in natural elements, such as tall grass and behind trees.
However, Assassin’s Creed 3 gameplay was not perfect and resulted in Ubisoft receiving in-depth feedback from players, particularly about the game’s user interface. Ubisoft reports that the remastered version will fix these elements, along with others, to create a more updated game experience for today’s gamers. Not only will the UI feature color-blind settings to help players spot enemies on the minimap better, but the remastered title will also feature an updated economy system to make it easier to use, as well as additional weapons for crafting. The new Assassin’s Creed 3 will also add stealth features from later games, including hiding in bushes, whistling to call over enemies, and double assassinations. Technical upgrades include support for 4K and HDR, with updated textures and “more visually accurate images.”
Ubisoft is also still adding updates and DLC for Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, the title released in 2018. The most recent DLC, though, proved controversial for the company because it forced the main character into a heterosexual romance after the main narrative allowed players more freedom with their sexuality. Ubisoft later made a change to the DLC to address player concerns. The company recently released the final episode of that DLC, and an update will feature a new “Lost Tale of Greece” mission, as well as another gear pack and remastered editions of both Assassin’s Creed 3 and Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation.
In past years, Ubisoft strove to release a new Assassin’s Creed game every year, but the company recently admitted that it planned on skipping 2019, with the next title in the franchise expected in 2020 instead. Rumors suggest that the new game will return players to Rome, but until the publisher makes an official announcement, it’s anyone’s guess where the next assassin will land - just that a pile of hay will likely break their fall.
