Avengers: Endgame is just a few short weeks away now. We’ll finally see what happened after Thanos snapped his fingers and half our favorite heroes disappeared from existence. We’ll also see the surviving heroes take on the Mad Titan and his powerful minions once and for all, with the fate of the universe hanging in the balance.
This could be the last time we’ll ever see a few of our favorite Marvel heroes: Captain America, Iron Man, possibly Thor etc. There are some scores that need to be settled. So, here are eight fights we want to see in Avengers: Endgame.
The Ancient One vs Thanos
This one might seem unlikely since we saw The Ancient One die in Doctor Strange. However, executive producer Michael Grillo reportedly said, “When we got Tilda Swinton, she was just a one-day availability,” at the Austin Film Festival. Naturally, this fueled speculation that she would be appearing in Avengers: Endgame, either through some mystical apparition or through time travel.
Whatever way she shows up in the movie, there’s every chance she had something to do with the one-in-14-billion scenario Doctor Strange saw in which the Avengers won. His mentor was a very powerful character – it would be fun to see her battle Thanos.
Thor vs Loki
Over the years, we’ve seen Thor give Loki the benefit of the doubt a few times. He keeps screwing him over, and yet he continues to trust him. We’ve also seen Loki die before, so there’s a good chance that didn’t really happen. Or, if it did, he’ll come back with the time travel storyline.
It’s been all but confirmed that time travel will have something to do with the Avengers’ travels through the Quantum Realm or Doctor Strange’s use of the Time Stone in Endgame. Plus, Tom Hiddleston in Loki’s 2012 gear has been spotted on the set. Whatever happens, if this is Chris Hemsworth’s final appearance as Thor, we’ll need to see him finally exact revenge on his brother for years of trickery.
Doctor Strange vs Thanos
Doctor Strange is one of the few characters in the MCU besides Thanos who we’ve seen wield the power of an Infinity Stone and not be driven totally mad (or dead) by it.
Plus, in Infinity War, we saw him restrain the Mad Titan using his magical powers. He’s one of the few Avengers whose powers could hold a candle to that of Thanos, and they developed a close rivalry – both physically and intellectually – during their scenes in the last movie. There’s an intense hatred there, but also a subtle mutual respect. It would add an extra layer of emotional conflict to a physical rematch.
Scarlet Witch vs Crossbones
Scarlet Witch was sent into a deep depression in Captain America: Civil War after her attempts to contain the explosion caused by Crossbones led to some civilian casualties and the introduction of the Sokovia Accords. If she could get some kind of retribution against Crossbones, or even prevent the explosion from ever happening, it would do wonders for her character development.
Frank Grillo has already confirmed he’s returning for Avengers: Endgame, despite Crossbones’ death in Civil War. The actor claims it’s just for a flashback sequence, but Marvel has lied to us before. It’s more likely it’ll involve time travel.
Hulk vs Thanos
The very first thing that happened in Infinity War was the Hulk challenging Thanos to a fight, then getting immediately pummeled and sent hurtling towards the Earth, establishing just how strong Thanos is. Then the green meanie spent the whole movie refusing the come out and play, while Bruce Banner had to learn to master Iron Man’s Hulkbuster armor just to be involved in the battle.
In Endgame, we’ll need to see the Hulk finally come back out – and we’ll need to see his rematch with Thanos. With any luck, this time, he’ll be prepared and therefore actually stand a chance.
Captain America vs Red Skull
Red Skull’s surprise reappearance in Avengers: Infinity War might actually have been setting this up. It’s a well-known fact that Chris Evans will be leaving the MCU after Avengers: Endgame, so it could be the last chance for him to settle the score with his old nemesis, Red Skull.
Cap can’t leave the MCU without his journey being completed, and as long as his arch nemesis is still out there on Vormir (and free to leave), that journey won’t be complete. It all started with Red Skull back in The First Avenger – he’s the whole reason Cap ended up getting frozen in the first place.
Guardians of the Galaxy vs Adam Warlock
Ever since Adam Warlock’s MCU debut was teased in one of the many mid-credits scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, fans have been eagerly awaiting his arrival. James Gunn has confirmed that he wanted to introduce Adam in the movie itself, but was stopped by Marvel who wanted to save Adam’s debut for a later movie. Maybe Endgame is that movie.
Captain Marvel has long been teased as the only character whose strength can match that of Thanos, but the same goes for the artificial being Adam Warlock. He could come along to complete the trifecta of power.
Captain Marvel vs Thanos
This is the one we’ve really been waiting for. It’s also one of the only Endgame fights that is basically guaranteed to happen. Ever since Nick Fury paged her in the post-credits scene of Infinity War, we’ve been waiting for Carol Danvers to triumphantly show up and kick Thanos’ ass. And as the mid-credits scene of her own movie showed a couple of weeks ago, she’s going to do pretty much exactly that.
Thanos has resolved to a quiet and peaceful life as a farmer, but he’ll still need to be defeated. He still created worldwide destruction and wiped out half of all the life in the universe. That’s not something you just get away with, at least on Captain Marvel’s watch.
