Eliminated contestant on The Bachelor, Alayah Benavidez reminded Bachelor Nation fans of Hannah Brown’s resident villain, Luke Parker. After Alayah was accused of not being genuine on Monday night’s episode, Peter Weber struggled with whether or not to send her home. His inner turmoil gave some fans flashbacks to Hannah’s up and down relationship with Luke P.
On Hannah’s season of The Bachelorette, Luke P. immediately stood out as the season’s frontrunner. He received the first impression rose, a surefire sign that Hannah really liked him. However, he quickly rubbed the other guys in the house the wrong way. On his very first date with Hannah, he confessed that he was falling in love with her in front of all the other men. Since he barely knew Hannah and had spent only a few short minutes with her at that point, the confession rubbed people the wrong way. After that moment, things continued to devolve. Hannah and Luke couldn’t get on the same page, and Hannah even tried to send him home midway through the season. Luke returned, however, and begged for a second chance. Caught up in her emotions, Hannah allowed him to rejoin the house. Things fell apart for good during Hannah’s fantasy suite date with Luke, where he told her that he would end things if she slept with anyone else. Hannah turned on him immediately and sent him home, although he still tried to convince her that they were meant to be together. Now, fans are drawing comparisons between Alayah and Luke P.
On Monday night’s episode of The Bachelor, Sydney Hightower accused fellow contestant Alayah of being fake and turning on the charm for the camera. Sydney brought her concerns to Peter, who immediately tried to talk things out with Alayah. Although Peter wanted to believe that Alayah was being genuine, his talks with many of the other women planted seeds of doubt in his head. He ultimately sent her home, though he struggled with the decision and admitted that he didn’t know if it was the right move. According to Yahoo, Peter’s inability to make a decision surrounding Alayah reminded fans of Hannah’s past relationship with Luke P. One fan tweeted, “Peter don’t pull a Hannah B and fall for Alayah like she fell for Luke P.” Another added, “I didn’t know Luke P’s sister was on the show.”
The similarities between Alayah and Luke P. don’t end with Peter’s inner struggle. In the preview for next week’s episode, Alayah returns to talk to Peter while he’s on a group date with some of the other women. It’s a move Luke P. pulled multiple times, despite the fact that Hannah was often frustrated with him. The impending return only made fans angrier and they took to Twitter to draw similarities between the two contestants. One fan used the beloved Spider-Man meme pointing at each other to get his point across, captioning it, “When Alayah and Luke P meet at stage coach this year.”
While Alayah has certainly been keeping some secrets from Peter, as her relationship with fellow pageant queen Victoria Paul, comparing her to Luke Parker is overly harsh. Luke P. displayed toxically masculine behavior on more than one occasion, often turning to aggression and intimidation to get his point across. Not only that, he harbored outdated views of women and sexuality, which he then tried to impose on Hannah. He was truly a toxic presence in the house and Hannah’s inability to see his somewhat dangerous characteristics was concerning. Alayah, on the other hand, changes her voice in front of the cameras and acts a little more put together than she is. The two situations are incomparable. The fact that Alayah has rubbed some fans the wrong way doesn’t mean she deserves to be compared to Luke P.
