Former Bachelorette star Chad Johnson is at at again. Known as the toxic chauvinist from JoJo Fletcher’s season, Johnson disappeared from Bachelor Nation quite some time ago. However, that doesn’t keep him from commenting on current seasons and desperately clinging to some sort of relevance, however negative it may be.
When Johnson fought for Fletcher’s heart on season 12 of The Bachelorette, his impact wasn’t a positive one. He was undoubtedly the season’s villain and generally appeared to use aggressive and intimidating behavior toward the men in the house - and occasionally JoJo herself. Despite his bad showing on his original season, Johnson returned for Bachelor in Paradise, where he was promptly sent home for the same aggressive and belligerent antics. Since then, Johnson has appeared on a range of reality TV shows, but his reputation hasn’t improved. He’s also made a name for himself by posting nonsensical tweets graphically insulting members of Bachelor Nation. His Twitter rampage feels like a desperate attempt to be part of the conversation, particularly since he admitted that many of his tweets were outright lies.
Despite the general dislike he receives from Bachelor Nation, Johnson recently chimed in with his opinion on the current season of The Bachelor during an interview with Us Weekly. “It was kind of boring. I felt like nothing happened in episode 1,” Johnson said. Despite that statement, Johnson also admitted that Hannah Brown’s emotional conversation with Weber in the first episode did catch his eye. “That was really screwed up,” he said of Brown’s return. “It was just so weird. You can take a stand. I mean, I get it that you’re contractually obligated to be there, but how much can you possibly talk about?” His statement suggested that Weber and Brown only had the conversation because they were under contract, ignoring the idea that the two shared genuine feelings for one another.
Johnson’s input didn’t stop there, however. He also made his opinions on Peter Weber crystal clear. “There’s nothing really bad to say about him because he’s just kind of there,” the reality star said. “I always thought the Bachelor was supposed to be this ultimate guy with a great career, and he’s good-looking and in shape. But nowadays the Bachelor is more like, ‘Here’s this PC guy that doesn’t really say any bad s–t.’ He smiles and he’s not ugly.” In other words, Johnson isn’t a huge fan of Pilot Pete, mostly because he feels he’s simply an uninteresting choice.
While Johnson isn’t wrong about ABC choosing the most vanilla options for their recent Bachelors, his opinion doesn’t hold much weight. While the Bachelor franchise is far from perfect, each of Johnson’s comments feel like the ramblings of an irate individual who didn’t fare well in the franchise. In addition, one look at Johnson’s Twitter rampages prove that he’s not a fan of the show. Why comment on Bachelor Nation happenings if you hate it so much? Most likely, Johnson is simply trying to stretch that 15 minutes of fame as far as it will go, not caring who he insults in the process.
