A Batwoman TV show image includes a first look at the Arrowverse Batman suit. Ever since the Arrowverse launched on The CW with Arrow in 2012, the ever-expanding DC TV universe has largely shied away from Batman. Some accused Arrow of making Oliver Queen aka. the Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) a Batman stand-in for the TV world. However, with the annoucement of a solo Batwoman TV show, it became clear that The CW would finally be diving into the Bat-family - just not with the Dark Knight himself as the lead. Instead, Ruby Rose stars as Kate Kane aka. Batwoman, the cousin of Bruce Wayne, who takes over as Gotham City’s protector in the absence of her cousin.
Rose debuted as Batwoman in the Elseworlds crossover event last Fall, coming face to face with the heroes of some of The CW’s other superhero shows: Green Arrow, Barry Allen aka. The Flash (Grant Gustin) and Kara Danvers aka. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). Her introduction was met with a largely positive response from fans. That boosted the hype for Rose’s solo Batwoman TV show, which received a series order from The CW earlier this month. Now as The CW gears up to officially add Batwoman to its Fall 2019 schedule, a new image unveils our first look at the Arrowverse’s Batman costume.
The CW released a new Batwoman image along with news of the show airing Sundays at 9pm ET after Supergirl. The image features Rose as Kate Kane and Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox, son of Batman ally Lucius Fox, standing in front of the Batman suit. See the image below.
The Arrowverse’s Batman costume is perhaps a little more simplistic than most of the live-action Batman movie suits, looking more flexible and streamlined than the armor-style costumes many of the film actors wore. It appears closest in style to Christopher Nolan’s version of Batman in the Dark Knight trilogy, but is still quite different from most of the movies’ takes on the costume. Of course, that’s to be expected since The CW’s Arrowverse costumes have always been different to the live-action movies. Gustin’s The Flash suit is incredibly distinct, and more comic-accurate, than the costume donned by Ezra Miller in Justice League. So it comes as little surprise that the Arrowverse would want to differentiate its Batman suit as well.
Whether fans will ever get to see someone suit up in this Batman costume, though, is another question entirely. As of yet, no actor has been cast to play Bruce Wayne in Batwoman and it seems unlikely the show would introduce the character in the first season. Similar to Supergirl, Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries may want to fully establish the titular superhero before introducing the character’s more well known cousin - that is, if Bruce Wayne is ever introduced. For now, it’s likely the Batman suit will continue as a simple prop in Batwoman. But with The CW now wading into the Bat-family, it remains possible that fans will finally get to see someone suit up as Batman in a future season of Batwoman.
