Our usual list of apps and updates is below kicking off with a couple notable updates from over the weekend to the Instapaper and vjay apps: vjay version 1.0.1: One of the biggest updates today goes to algoriddim’s video-mixing vjay app that we introduced you to a couple of months ago. Included in version 1.0.1 is support for 1080p videos up to 30 FPS, new settings like Auto Repeat and Play Automatically, and improved MIDI support for both the ION iDJ 2 Go MIDI controller and Numark Mixdeck Quad....

If you read the headlines, you might firmly believe that the comic book industry is in a state of total, imminent crisis. Back in 2017, a “Meet the Publishers” panel at San Diego Comic-Con kicked off a storm when the heads of DC Comics states an intention to “stop the collapse of the comic book industry.” DC eventually insisted it was something of a misquote, but the sentiment created a very real sense that all is not well in the comic book world....

Arrow fans will get to say goodbye to Roy Harper after all, as Colton Haynes returns for the show’s 8th and final season. Haynes debuted on the superhero drama in its first season and quickly became a fan favorite. His on-again/off-again relationship with Oliver’s younger sister, Thea Queen, is a big part of Arrow, especially in the early seasons. After training with Oliver for a year, Roy takes on the nickname “Arsenal” in season 3 and becomes a part of the team....

An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is composed of four principal objects: Layers: all the learning occurs in the layers. There are 3 layers 1) Input 2) Hidden and 3) Output Feature and label: Input data to the network (features) and output from the network (labels) Loss function: Metric used to estimate the performance of the learning phase Optimizer: Improve the learning by updating the knowledge in the network A neural network will take the input data and push them into an ensemble of layers....

The new Asus devices announced appear to be the ideal Windows 8 scenario — Ultrabook or Macbook Air like notebook with a full keyboard, serious horse-power and a touchscreen which allows you fully leverage the new Windows 8 interface. There’s also the VivoTab RT, which is running the Windows 8 RT Edition however personally, I’m just not ready to lose my keyboard yet and if I was, I would probably just go with the Microsoft’s Surface and grab the keyboard/case combo just in case....

The first half of the season was full of action and political intrigue, so what can fans expect from Attack On Titan season 3 when it returns? The Attack On Titan manga began in 2009 and was created by Hajime Isayama. The story takes place in a walled city where what remains of humanity takes shelter from giant, humanoid creatures known as Titans. After a long period of peace, a massive Titan suddenly appears outside the city’s outermost wall and breaches it, causing other Titans to flood in and devour the unlucky civilians inside, with the survivors retreating behind the city’s second wall....

While I was on Reddit (using the excellent Apollo for iOS) this weekend, I came across a fun new application that I am glad I now have. It’s called Aurora. Aurora is a simple color picker for macOS and iOS. Why do you need a color picker on your Mac or iPhone? A color picker helps you determine what the color of something is so you can reuse it on another project....

A Avatar 2 set photo shows a sneak peek at a new underwater ship. Upon its release in 2009, James Cameron’s Avatar was a box office smash and technical marvel. It went on to win three Oscars, and Cameron announced his intention to continue the story with a number of sequels. However, due to the amount of visual effects required and the Disney-Fox deal, the release dates for the sequels have been pushed back several times....

In what’s truly a work of mad genius, a fan recreated the most recent Avengers: Endgame trailer using clips from Spongebob Squarepants. Ever since Avengers: Infinity War arrived last spring to rock the world of Marvel fans everywhere, said fans have been waiting impatiently for their chance to find out what happens next. Unfortunately, Marvel Studios has seen fit to go into almost complete lockdown on the topic, revealing almost nothing of consequence about the Phase 3 capper’s overall plot arc....

Backup With Karen’s Replicator First, download and install Karen’s Replicator on your Windows system. Open the program. Here you’ll notice a backup I already have running called FreeNasBackup. Click Edit Settings. Click New Job. You’ll see a blank configuration screen with a few default settings. Now, give the job a name – since you may have multiple jobs, I recommend using a descriptive name to distinguish backups. Enter the source location....

Inaccurate and missing metadata isn’t just a pain for music lovers – it can also cost artists, songwriters, and others billions in unpaid royalties from streaming music services, suggests a new report. One example given was a musician who missed out on $40,000 in royalties because a clash between two different metadata databases removed many of his credits … The Verge reports that even after the metadata was finally fixed, the musician still didn’t get his money....

DC’s Batwoman season 1, episode 3 sees the mystery of Alice deepen - and raises disturbing questions about just how secret Batman’s identity really is in the Arrowverse. Batwoman appears to be going from strength to strength, with episode 3 opening with a genuinely disturbing flashback/nightmare to Alice’s missing 15 years. It doesn’t take long for the story to spin to the present day, with Kate Kane attempting to persuade her sister to go just 24 hours without killing....

Designer Álvaro Pabesio, who previously shared a slick ‘macOS 11’ concept, is out today with a fresh iPad Pro concept. Included in his clean vision of the product are iPhone X-like rounded display corners, Face ID, a new multitasking option to pull up iPhone apps and more. While we’ve seen a few renders of an almost full-screen iPad Pro, this new concept may be the most beautiful and fleshed out to date....

Actor Josh Gad has recently spoken about his role as LeFou in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and made reference to the “weird controversy” that it elicited. Gad was taking about his character LeFou being gay. Known as the voice of Olaf, the snowman from Frozen and, most recently Frozen 2, Gad also played the role of Gaston’s trusty sidekick in the 2017 live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Though it wasn’t overt, Lefou’s sexuality was hinted at in the remake, in a way that wasn’t so obvious in the animation of the same title and it was this that Gad has made reference to....

In addition to all the independent films, franchise blockbusters, and superhero movies, there are quite a few foreign-language films that release every year and astound audiences. Last year, foreign-language movies such as Paweł Pawlikowski’s Cold War, Nadine Labaki’s Capernaum, and of course, Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma, which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, released in theaters and captured audiences’ attention. Sometimes that can be quite difficult considering not every foreign-language movie is made readily available around the world....

On NeXT: The book notes that the computer industry changed during Microsoft’s leadership, shifting to an environment where companies — the largest buyers of computers — were seeking reliability and stability rather than innovation. According to the authors, NeXT’s key failure was that it successfully identified a real market for $3,000 workstation computers targeted at the higher-education market, but went so far beyond that price point — in some cases in pursuit of industrial design goals — that few actual customers existed for its product....

Back in August, Apple announced that long-time senior vice president of worldwide marketing would transition to a new Apple Fellow position, with Greg Joswiak moving into Schiller’s role. This week, Apple has updated its Leadership webpage to acknowledge these changes. In August, Apple gave no timeline on the specifics of executive changes, but the update to the Leadership webpage at least gives the impression that the transition has taken place recently....

To get FDA approval for the ECG feature in the new Apple Watch Series 4, Apple had to provide data from a heart study in which half the participants had AFib and half didn’t. The study provided to the Food and Drug Administration showed that the Watch was more than 98% accurate at detecting atrial fibrillation … For some bizarre reason, a Quartz piece on this was headlined The new heart-monitoring capabilities on the Apple Watch aren’t all that impressive....
