It looks like the biggest app update might go to the Google Earth iOS app due to reports that claim the new 3D maps feature Google demoed last month will roll out sometime today. The Arrow season 8 trailer is released by The CW teasing the series’ final season. Arrow premiered in 2012 as the first show to launch the popular Arrowverse. Now, the universe includes The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and new series Batwoman, which premieres Oct. 6. All five shows, plus characters from fellow DC series Black Lightning, will unite at the end of the year for the massive Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover....

AT&T and DirecTV’s $48.5 billion merger has been approved today following more than a year of regulatory review. The merger will see AT&T become the biggest pay-TV company, passing up cable company Comcast. AT&T says it will serve more than 26 million U.S. customers and 19 million users in Latin America. As part of the regulatory approval, the FCC has applied several conditions to the merger, all of which will be imposed for four years and enforced by internal and external compliance officers....

Fans of macOS automation features like Automator and AppleScript feared the worst this week as it transpired that head of the automation technologies division, Sal Soghoian, had left the company and the whole unit inside Apple had been closed down. This fuelled speculation that Apple was abandoning a core power feature of the pro Mac user’s wheelhouse. The BBC has updated its iPlayer app for iOS to support Spotlight searches and allow Handoff between devices. Spotlight support means that you to search for BBC TV shows by swiping down from the homescreen, while Handoff allows you to seamlessly pick up where you left off when switching between devices. The BBC notes that it has also fixed a nasty bug. The iPlayer app made it onto Apple TV back in December....

Unlike previous versions of watchOS, the ability to take screenshots is disabled by default in watchOS 3. Consumer Reports yesterday dropped a bombshell on Apple, making the new MacBook Pro the first MacBook ever to not receive the publication’s recommendation. As for its reasoning, Consumer Reports explained that the inconsistent, yet sometimes impressive, battery life was too big of an issue to overlook. Now, Apple Marketing executive Phil Schiller says that the company is working with Consumer Reports to “understand” the tests. That’s what’s so ironic about this: Consumer Reports reported a three and a half hour test on the MacBook Pro, which if you’ve used one like me, know is completely possible with some serious CPU-intensive tasks....

PlayStation 4 Sony received a standing ovation at its E3 presentation when it announced full support for used games, no requirement for online play for single player games, and a starting price of $399. However, the PS4 doesn’t include the PlayStation Eye – Sony’s version of the Kinect.
